Contemporânea is a bilingual [PT/EN] magazine dedicated to the dissemination of contemporary art, it is a space open to critical thought, which promotes the understanding of contemporary art practices and their inscription on a global context.
The fifth printed edition of Contemporânea seeks to broaden the debate on painting and its place within contemporary art production. Following on the previous editions, it presents itself as an important document to record its time, exploring various artistic and curatorial practices that question history itself or witness their context, potentialities, connections, interpretations, and the dialogues they articulate. However, and despite such a diversity, it is important to think over what painting can and wants to be today. When the production, circulation, and reception of art stem from countless possibilities, why keep on painting? What does it mean to be a painter today?
